Boston Calling is Boston’s premier annual music festival that takes Boston by storm every Memorial Day weekend. Taking place in Harvard’s Athletic Complex, over 40,000 fans gathered here for three days to see some of the world’s best musicians. The festival was first founded in 2012, and it has since become one of the most popular music festivals in the United States. This year’s lineup was headlined by powerhouse acts from Metallica and Nine Inch Nails. There was something for everyone, from Hip Hop and Rap with EARTHGANG to 2010’s classics from Avril Lavigne. Some fan favorite acts include Charlotte Sands, Peach Tree Rascals, and Pom Pom Squad.

Every act big and small put on an amazing show. Local band Crooked Coast was unfamiliar to many. Yet, they put on an energetic performance that blew the crowd away. People came from all across the festival to see what was going on.

People came from everywhere to attend this year’s festival. There was an air of friendship and fun, and everyone was having an amazing time. Lots of people came in groups of friends, but there were quite a few people who came solo. Many attendees were happy to report that they made friends left and right.

Don’t forget about the food! This year’s vendors brought their best, with countless flavors and dishes from all over. Buenas, an empanada truck, had particularly energetic and kind service. They were one of dozens of different options to choose from- we certainly were not hungry during our time at Boston Calling.

There were quite a few unlucky events that threatened the logistics of the festival this year. The event started out perfectly, but there seemed to be impending weather problems as the days passed. A sudden and quite intense thunderstorm suddenly took over on the second day. In a challenging moment, the management and staff quickly got everyone organized and safe.

Unlucky events seemed to continue, as The Strokes suddenly dropped out of their headline spot the day before they were scheduled to go on due to Covid. Once again, Boston Calling’s team sprung into action and worked out a deal to have Nine Inch Nails headline again. They put on an unbelievable show and many people were just as excited, if not more, to see Nine Inch Nails’ new set.

The dedication and smart thinking of Boston Calling’s team, even when the odds were stacked against them, stuck with us at WRSU. Their ability to work through cancellations, sudden storms, and everything else was a testament to how well put together Boston Calling is. Going to Boston Calling is guaranteed to be an amazing time, no matter what happens!
