WRSU is nominated for 5 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System awards

It’s another year, another round of WRSU finalists for the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s annual awards!

WRSU has been named a finalist in five categories spanning the Music, News and Sports Departments.

The station’s music blog, the most active part of the WRSU website, is a finalist for “Best Station Blog.” It was nominated previously in 2018, and is seeking its first win in the category.

WRSU News is a finalist in two categories. Back in May, News snagged an interview with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He spoke with new News Director Caleb Kuberiet and outgoing News Director Joey Bloch on a special edition of Knightbeat, which was a finalist for “Best Talk Program.”

Joey Bloch also was a finalist for his interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, who was the University’s commencement speaker at its virtual celebration in May. Their conversation is up for “Best News Interview.”

Danielle Ciampaglia and Allen Uzoma were the co-hosts of “Bruh Meets World” during the 2019-20 school year. Within the show, was an occasional segment called “Off the Record,” featuring live performances with bands in the studio. Their November 26 episode with “Long Beard” is a finalist for “Best Live Music Broadcast.”

And the WRSU Sports Department is a finalist for “Best Men’s Basketball Play-by-Play.” The department was the beneficiary of one of the most magical seasons in recent memory, as the Scarlet Knights appeared headed for their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1991 until the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the sports world. WRSU’s submission included games against Nebraska and Minnesota, and featured announces Chris Tsakonas, Corey Jason, Randy DeGregorio and Troy DeSavino.

Winners will be announced at the virtual 2021 IBS Conference in early March.
