WRSU alum Nicole Murray (SAS ’15) has been named the new host of “PopCrush Nights,” a nationally-syndicated radio show based on the widely-read and cited pop culture and music site PopCrush.com.
“PopCrush Nights” features the hottest new pop music and trending entertainment and music information, and airs weeknights from 7 pm-midnight on 17 stations across the country, including at the Jersey Shore on WJLK, 94.3 “The Point” in Toms River.
Murray was a host of “RU Entertained?” in the early days of the program in her time at WRSU. The show – which currently airs weekdays from 3-4 pm – features entertainment news and celebrity gossip. She also hosted her own show, “Talk of the Town,” which featured the latest pop hits with news about the latest hitmakers and celebrities sprinkled in. She continued to host the show until 2017 as an alum.

Former New Jersey Health Commissioner Mary O’Dowd – now back at Rutgers, her alma mater – is hosting a new podcast called “On the Pandemic,” which also air every other Thursday at noon on WRSU 88.7FM and online at wrsu.org.
O’Dowd is the Executive Director of Health Systems and Population Health Integration for Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and is an advisory member for the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Prior to coming “Back to the Banks” in 2016, she served as state health commissioner from April 2011 through July 2015.
Every other week, O’Dowd will interview medical professionals, health experts and more, in order to take a closer look at the COVID-19 pandemic.

WRSU News aired Governor Murphy’s 2021 State of the State address Tuesday, including reaction afterward from Democrats and Republicans.
Murphy – headed into an election year – touted his record and future plans for the state, including on COVID-19, taxes, and infrastructure, as well as plans to help struggling businesses in the state as the pandemic rages on.
After the speech, hosts Caleb Kuberiet and Connor Cullinane got reaction in live phone calls with Woodbridge State Senator Joseph Vitale (D-19) and Branchburg State Senator Christopher “Kip” Bateman (R-16).
It’s another year, another round of WRSU finalists for the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s annual awards!
WRSU has been named a finalist in five categories spanning the Music, News and Sports Departments.
The station’s music blog, the most active part of the WRSU website, is a finalist for “Best Station Blog.” It was nominated previously in 2018, and is seeking its first win in the category.
WRSU News is a finalist in two categories. Back in May, News snagged an interview with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He spoke with new News Director Caleb Kuberiet and outgoing News Director Joey Bloch on a special edition of Knightbeat, which was a finalist for “Best Talk Program.”

Joey Bloch also was a finalist for his interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, who was the University’s commencement speaker at its virtual celebration in May. Their conversation is up for “Best News Interview.”

Danielle Ciampaglia and Allen Uzoma were the co-hosts of “Bruh Meets World” during the 2019-20 school year. Within the show, was an occasional segment called “Off the Record,” featuring live performances with bands in the studio. Their November 26 episode with “Long Beard” is a finalist for “Best Live Music Broadcast.”

And the WRSU Sports Department is a finalist for “Best Men’s Basketball Play-by-Play.” The department was the beneficiary of one of the most magical seasons in recent memory, as the Scarlet Knights appeared headed for their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1991 until the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the sports world. WRSU’s submission included games against Nebraska and Minnesota, and featured announces Chris Tsakonas, Corey Jason, Randy DeGregorio and Troy DeSavino.

WRSU News Director Caleb Kuberiet anchored four hours of live coverage of Wednesday’s siege of the U.S. Capitol on Washington, D.C. supporters of President Trump and his claims of election fraud, highlighted by a live telephone interview with a New Jersey Congressman.
Long Branch Congressman Frank Pallone (D-7th) phoned in to WRSU from a secure location after the protesters stormed the Capitol and breached security to get inside the building, as Congress was certifying the votes from each state in the hotly-contested and disputed presidential election.
Pallone says his office looks out on the Capitol and he was watching as protesters closed in on the building. Pallone explained he was still in his office because Congress was “determined” to complete the process of approving electors.
